A Random February Post

Sometimes it’s hard to think of things to write that are not links.

And sometimes I just give up and don’t do it.

– So The Lonely Island’s back, with YOLO. Standard stuff, good for them. That’s actually what I always assumed was the proper intended sentiment behind the concept…I mean you only live once, don’t throw it away by being reckless. Like this 21 year-old last year that Tweeted “YOLO” about drifting corners while drunk until he hit a wall and killed himself and his four passengers. I blame you, Kanye!

– Turns out that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 might take a page out of Spider-Man 3‘s wildly successful playbook and pack an unnecessary Spider-Man sequel with a second shitty villain cast with a Sideways star. Yes that’s right, Paul Giamatti is currently in talks to play the Rhino! Seems like a odd, if bizarrely interesting, casting choice as the character has traditionally been more the “DUH I’LL GETCHA SPIDER-MAN” type than the traditional neurotic…you know, Paul Giamatti type, but it’s generally not a bad idea to draft for talent over position. Weirder still, the article cites a previous interview in which Paul Giamatti mentions that he’d be down to play the Rhino, in a piece hilariously (…) titled Paul Giamatti Wants to Get Horny.

“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” says Paul. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me.

“If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

But that’s from March 2011, a year before the first The Amazing Spider-Man even came out. But who grows up dreaming about being the Rhino…? My guess is that he had just recently gotten around to reading Flowers for Rhino (one of the greatest Spider-Man stories of all time, no joke) and he finally figured out an angle he could take on it.

– From out of a Denmarkian (…Danish) animation studio comes The Reward, which is a fun mix of the two always popular elements of Best Friendom and Adventures! They really nail the aesthetics of the high five down, which is the biggest thing I took away from this. I liked it much better than this Oscar nominated swill from Disney, Paperman, which reminds us all of that eternal lesson; true love is always just a serendipitous random encounter away, so long as you throw in a campaign of obsessive stalking to lock it down. Also, magic.

This is a commercial that Samsung is making for the Super Bowl that presumably pokes fun at the fact that they owe Apple $1.05 billion from patent infringements, because I guess that is an appropriate thing to make fun of now…? It barely features any actual shots of a Samsung product, which I would have initially thought to be a prerequisite for product advertisements…but what do I know, I’m not the head of a multi-million dollar marketing firm. Also, it features former Mr. Show star Bob Odenkirk and two largely irrelevant comedians.

– Check it out, a new fatal mite-linked viral infection from China that has no known vaccine has just demonstrated the ability to jump oceans. Good times.

Lincoln was super gay!

Destined to fight the world's evil, The WAMBAG endures massive battles involving impossible stunts, races on horse-pulled carriages, and the desecration of enchanting medieval castles (all done with dizzying computer graphics). Not only does the eye candy keep on coming, the tongue-in-cheek writing and deep Transylvanian accents perfect the film with a dose of dark humor.

Tagboard (!?!)

Apparently PHP7 doesn't support the same function calls I wrote in 2008? I should fix this at some point.
